NHS Lothian provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services for the second largest residential population in Scotland.

We believe creativity, arts and design should be woven into all our work as there is good evidence that these have a positive effect on wellbeing and health.

This painting is dominated by the wash in shades of blue, with smaller areas in pink and brick-red. Two birds are shown in profile, facing in opposite directions.

The closest, on the right, appears to be a common species that could be found in any British garden - thrush or sparrow, say. The bird in the middle distance has a less common appearance such as a heron or species which could be found beyond these shores, or on the British coast.

Impressions of buildings and leaves can be seen in the background wash, bringing one to imagine an environment of urban nature, where the hustle and bustle of city life can harmonise with nature's calm.
