NHS Lothian provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services for the second largest residential population in Scotland.

We believe creativity, arts and design should be woven into all our work as there is good evidence that these have a positive effect on wellbeing and health.

Ruth Addinall was born in 1960 and came to Edinburgh to study French, though she also studied Art History. She started painting in her late twenties, taking commissions and selling privately in the late 80s, and in 2000 she undertook a painting sabbatical in Paris and. The following year, she studied sculpture at the Frink School of Sculpture in Stoke Upon Trent. She has exhibited widely: her most recent exhibition at the Union Gallery In Edinburgh was held the summer of 2013. She works mainly in oils and sculpting human figures. She says the stillness of her images “reflect my fascination with sculptural form, the way light creates mass.” She lives in Edinburgh, where she paints, sculpts and teaches piano.
