NHS Lothian provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services for the second largest residential population in Scotland.

We believe creativity, arts and design should be woven into all our work as there is good evidence that these have a positive effect on wellbeing and health.

Born in Northumberland in 1974, Stephanie Dees RSW attended Edinburgh College of Art from 1992 to 1998 graduating with a BA (Hons) in Drawing and Painting, an MFA in Painting and an MA in Fine Art. She draws much of her inspiration from landscapes and townscapes in and around Edinburgh, Cornwall, Italy and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. In 2002, Stephanie won the 'Alexander Graham Munro Travel Award RSW', awarded annually for the best painting by an artist under 30 years of age. She has won many other art prizes, including the Andrew Grant Bequest Prize for Drawing ECA (1997) and the Scottish Education Trust Award (1998). She has exhibited widely in Edinburgh and the UK.

Stephanie's paintings are atmospheric, calm and nostalgic, reflecting the effect of the changing seasons on both urban and rural environments. They are often based on architecture, "capturing the pale light and uncluttered charm of her subject". Though the viewer will never observe the featuring of people in her work, there is always the sense of a nearby human presence. Without this source of movement dominating her work, a subtle silence is created.
