NHS Lothian provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services for the second largest residential population in Scotland.

We believe creativity, arts and design should be woven into all our work as there is good evidence that these have a positive effect on wellbeing and health.

John 'DB' Evans was born in 1943 and currently lives in Hampshire. From 1959-1965 he studied at Northamptonshire, Edinburgh and Swansea Art Colleges. As a freelance artist for many years he had clients in Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and Turkmenistan. He says 'I was always very busy with about 10 commissions on order at any one time and rarely dealt with galleries, preferring to meet the clients and discuss the painting with them and get them involved in their ideas and the development process'.

Commissions included graphic design and illustration for the Scottish based Ecurie Ecosse World Sports Car racing team, and automotive design for Aston Martin Cars and their World Sports Car Team 1978-1991. His 'portrait in oils of a rather inebriate and grumpy looking grouse!' was painted for Famous Grouse Whisky. He also makes ceramics and has painted several large murals in Corfu and the UK, with solo exhibitions in the UK and Spain.

With thanks to John Brownbridge for information on the artist.
