Born in North Yorkshire, Sophie studied Painting at Edinburgh College of Art. She graduated with a First Class honours degree in 2014. Accolades include, becoming an invited graduate to the Society of Scottish Artists exhibition and being selected for the Saatchi New Sensations art prize. Sophie lives in Edinburgh.

''When observing my surroundings I look for anomalies and unintentional details in surfaces or structures. This heavily influences the way that I produce my work. The use of pre-existing functional materials has always been a natural part of my practice. I look to push beyond the assumed knowledge of a surface to find a new visual potential. These works explore Superfresco textured wall paper. I actively challenge the repetitive, structured nature of mass produced products and try to make surface more individual. All the works are completely unique and could never be replicated. A small deviation from the process or change in approach will alter the entire appearance of the piece. This could never be completely avoided and therefore I embrace it.

Each piece has a steel support. The metal structure follows a minimalist composition and frames the delicately crafted intricacies within the work. The metal moves beyond functionality to become decorative in its own right.''

Winner of the Art in Healthcare Award at RSA New Contemporaries 2015, with funding from the Hope Scott Trust.
