Paolo Doyle graduated from Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen in 2016 and has won the Art in Healthcare purchase award, with funding from the Turtleton Trust.

A Hare Out of Place is a harmonious landscape with paneling of colour and shape - the horizontal cliffs and ruins are held tightly in between by vertical lines of green fields. The artist is standing on top of the ruin relating to the hare out of place - indicating perhaps human fleeting experiences next to longstanding cliffs.

'A Hare Out of Place is set on the west mainland of Orkney, and is a painting which concerns our fleeting lifespan, and the struggle that we bear (that I bear) to make the most of what we have. The buildings are in successive states of decay, but the cliffs in the background, still standing, have been there for millions of years. I have painted myself in the background which is a precursor to another painting entitled "Attempting to fly, but not succeeding". The hare in the foreground is not moving but alert and may be about to run. Being an Irish hare it is completely in the wrong place' - Paolo Doyle
