Wilhelmina Barns-Graham
Water Dance (Porthmeor) II
Screenprint, 75.5 x 75.5 cm
2003
Reg. No: L373
Wilhelmina Barns-Graham (1912-2004) was an accomplished painter and printmaker originally from St. Andrews, Fife. The use of three colours, green and white on a blue background, makes for an exceptionally striking print. If we look at the print alone, without knowing the title, we would perhaps think of a dance or an exciting sense of movement. The title tells us of Wilhelmina’s inspiration for this work, Porthmeor is a beach in St Ives, Cornwall. St Ives is considered to be ‘the jewel of the South West’ where Wilhelmina spent much of her time.

This artwork has been kindly loaned to Art in Healthcare by the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust.
